David got 200 Club yesterday…"what is 200 Club?", you ask?? Well, 200 Club is a citizenship type of award that can be given to you by just about anyone. If the janitor sees you picking up around the lunchroom, he can give you 200 Club. If you hold the door open for someone, a teacher might see it and give you 200 Club. That type of thing.
When you get 200 Club, you are given a yellow sticker to wear on your clothes that is shaped like a ribbon. The person who gives you 200 Club indicates on the sticker why you are getting it. David’s was for "taking responsibility for his actions". The recipient is then sent up to the office where they are allowed to call a parent to tell them about it. Then at the Friday Flagpole Ceremony, the weeks 200 Club recipients are called up in front of the whole school and given an admission ticket to "Story and Snack Time" with the Principal.
Now that I’ve given you all the background on 200 club, I have to tell you what David did to get it. HIs class was supposed to be reading on Thursday morning. While the teacher was otherwise engaged, most of the kids started chattering and it got out of hand. Ms. Russell couldn’t deal with it anymore and asked, "OK, who is doing all the talking?". Only four kids raised their hands and fessed up…and Ms. Russell gave the four 200 Club for being honest. Naturally a whole lot more started raising their hands when they saw that they missed out on 200 Club, but those kids just got in trouble. This kind of stuff would happen to my kid.
On a side note…I am finally back to working in the classroom!!! YEAH. All day Friday I will be in David’s classroom. I was only half the day today because I had to go pick up Brian from the airport…more on that in another post.
