It’s been one of THOSE weeks. Monday seemed to start off alright. I was able to get the finished disc of family portraits to Mrs. K…one of the teachers at David’s school. She was thrilled with the images…YEAH!!! She signed a Model Release and now I can use those images in a portfolio, advertising, website, etc. These portfolio building sessions are cheap, $50 sitting fee and you get a CD of high resolution images and a release that allows you to do with them what you want. Meantime I get the model release that allows me to use you and your lovely family to build my business. Seems like a real good deal to me. LOL…so if you know anyone in the market for some portraits…give them my name! LOL
When I got home on Monday, though, I found out Keith had passed. It was a flashback to when Porter called to tell me Wendy had passed away! My initial reaction was, "this is a really tacky joke, right?", but the response to that really dumb question is always a "NO". Keith had a great sense of humor, especially about himself. One of the funniest things about him was that he would mistake the lyrics in songs. The first time I remember catching him at this, was on a bus to the Los Angeles Zoo, he had on his walkman, and he was singing along to Depeche Mode. The song was "People are People", when I heard him, badly, sing the chorus, I cracked up. Then there was a 20 minute argument about what the "right" words were. The other thing I totally associate with Keith was the soundtrack to "Purple Rain". I said a prayer to Keith the other night and told him that whenever I hear "People are People" or anything from "Purple Rain" I will know he was close. Today on the way to school my radio station played "Let’s Go Crazy"…I don’t ever recall them playing it before…it wasn’t the 80′s station…but either way, I knew it was a message from Keith. It made me smile and sing all day long.
The other thing that happened on Monday had to do with Cub Scouts. We have a new guy as our Charter Organization for Pack 812. New being a relative term. Our previous charter, a home builder, had been the charter for quite some time and never did anything with or for Pack 812. For whatever reason, the home builder was removed as our charter org, and this guy’s company became our new charter org back in Jan/Feb time period. There was only one person who knew anything about this and her son left cub scouts back in May…there was no consulting of the Pack Leadership prior to this change.
As you can imagine, the charter change went over like a fart in church. But to make matters worse, the guy, Bob, has come on like "gangbusters" and seems to have a "take no prisoners" attitude. Bear in mind that Pack 812 has been self-sufficient for quite some time and has managed to raise funds, build or buy some great assets for the pack, and generally do it all without outside help. Here’s the part that pisses me off. All those assets be they money, rain gutter regatta track, pinewood derby track, arts or craft…they all belong to the Charter Organization…regardless of who bought them or made them…they became Bob’s property when he became the charter organization.
Now, since Bob has come on like gangbusters and treated the leadership as though we were his employees, we’ve voiced dissent. He’s fired committee member and sent a letter out to the parents of the cub scouts explaining that he will not be allowing those that disagree with him to lead his boys. So it appears some or most of the pack will be breaking off and forming it’s own new pack from scratch. Now that’s the part that sucks! If I’d known then, what I know now, Brian and I would have never volunteered to be den leaders!
So, how is your week?
