Normally I spend all day Friday working in David’s classroom. Tomorrow is a holiday, Nevada Admissions Day, so his teacher asked me to come in today. Sure, no problem, and I don’t think another thing about it.
Meanwhile, at home, chaos was reigning supreme! David and I got home to discover my Mom’s Oxygen canula (the part that goes in her nose) and the rest of the 75 feet of hose trailing down the front steps ending practically at the street. We walk in and find my Mom, asleep in a chair…not a big surprise. I’m greeted by Scooby, but no Daphne. Not unusual, Daphne’s been known to sleep so hard she doesn’t hear me come in. I hit the button on the answering machine to play back the three new messages. The first one is from someone a couple of streets over telling me they have Scooby-Doo…strange…Scooby is here. Then it dawns on me…WHERE IS DAPHNE??? I go tearing through the house calling for her and she’s gone. I play back the messages to find out she’s at a house on the street behind us.
I sure wish I knew what Mom was doing to let out both dogs and trail her oxygen out to the street. I guess I’ve been in denial about needing someone to come in and care for Mom, but today pretty much brought me out of my state of denial. I’m thankful, very thankful, to have my two wonderful dogs back at home, safe and sound. I’m thankful there are other people in the world and specifically my neighborhood, who love dogs and worry about them being separated from their owners and who worry about them possibly getting hit by a car.
Tomorrow I will be calling around to nursing/companion providers to find someone to be here so I can be free to help out at school and not worry about how I will find Mom upon my return home.
