Wesley the Owl by Stacey O’Brien

What a fantastic book!  I read a review of this memoir in People magazine a couple of weeks ago and knew it was the book for me.  I picked it up at the library today and started reading it at 10am.  I finished it at 10pm tonight…couldn’t put it down.

Now if you don’t truly know me, then you don’t know that when I was a young child (age 6), I decided I wanted to be a Veterinarian.  Not just any vet, but a zoo or wild animal vet.  With this in mind, I was hugely excited to find out that there was a magnet high school that placed an emphasis animal studies…so much so that the magnet school was located on the grounds of the Los Angeles Zoo.  I graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1985 with a tremendous amount of knowledge about zoos and the wildlife they showcase.

I didn’t persue my dreams of being a zoo vet…something I still regret at times.  My thirst for knowledge of the wildlife I respect, appreciate and love so much still hasn’t been quenched.  The review of this book in People magazine gave me a bit of insight on the author, Stacey O’Brien…I just knew we were kindred spirits.  That and the thought of someone sharing their life with a gorgeous Barn Owl for two decades really had me curious.  This book was so enjoyable!  So much knowledge imparted with so much fun, joy, and laughter.  Really a heart warming read!!!  This is the next “Marley & Me”!!!
