BBRRRRRRRRRRR!
Since I was only going for the weekend I only took carry ons. However, I did wear the winter (rated for -45 degrees) boots Rochell convinced me to buy. So while still in Vegas my feet were frying! Remember, I usually run around in Vegas winters in shorts and flip flops! LOL! That wouldn’t work in North Dakota!
Thankfully my carry on bag had room for my “winter” coat. OK, let’s be honest, a “winter” coat in Vegas is going to pale in comparison to a “winter” coat in North Dakota. Thankfully, I run really warm (remember the shorts & flip flops in Vegas), and my Vegas “winter” coat was just find in North Dakota. So, my winter coat was stuffed into the top of my duffle bag so I could grab it when I got to the Bismarck Airport.
We landed in Bismarck and it was gorgeous. Bear in mind I was born and raised in Los Angeles and have lived in Las Vegas for the last 18 years. With this is mind I could see the true beauty in that thick blanket of snow. It was then that I decided that I couldn’t wait to photograph my first winter in ND after we move here. I think that the novelty of that environment will allow me to see and record all the beauty in it. By the end of the winter I suspect I will be just as jaded as any ND resident and anxious for the snow to be done and Spring to show up. I then realized that I really need to photograph our first four seasons in ND, finding the beauty in all of it.
Once they opened the door of the plane onto the jetway…I felt it! WOW! I’ve never felt -2 degrees before! And certainly never in my shirt sleeves! WOW! I can honestly say I’ve never wished more for a coat! It was a little while before I was able to get off the plane and to a place where I could open my duffel bag to get my coat, scarf and gloves! Then I was able to survey the airport that is located in the Capital city of North Dakota…it had all of 4 (four) gates! I think the North Las Vegas Municipal Airport is bigger! WOW!
Michele was kind enough to take the day off work to come the 90 minutes to get me. We also had some shopping for my nephew Jake’s 18th birthday to do. We got back to her house in time for me “doll-up” for my husbands arrival home. It was a good weekend, any time spent with Brian is quality time. He took me on a tour of where he worked and I got to meet a few of a men that he worked with. One man that stood out was Clarence. Clarence was the man that originally started the company and is probably about 80 and a dead-ringer for my Paternal Grandfather, only shorter. He was a riot! Just loved him.
Unfortunately, Brian, who was supposed to be off on Monday, had to work. Since I didn’t have a rental car we decided that I would need to go back to Bismarck on Sunday and catch a cab to the airport. But Brian stayed with me and left in time to get to work.
God it was hard to let him go! I’ve never been insecure about our marriage. Brian certainly isn’t the kind of person who thinks the grass is always greener on the other side, nor am I – Hell, I finally have him trained, I would be an idiot to want to start over with some other guy! LOL – that was a joke people! I was honest with Brian, if I’d known in January how hard it was going to be without him, I would never have suggested he go to ND. Sweet guy that he is, he immediately offered to come home. That wouldn’t solve anything, but he was sweet to offer.
In about 6 weeks, David and I will go back for Spring Break. And about 8 weeks after that we will be on our way there permanently! I can’t wait!
