Prairie Tale: A Memoir

Prairie Tale: A Memoir by Melissa Gilbert

Prairie Tale: A Memoir by Melissa Gilbert

Like so many of my friends and family, I grew up watching Melissa Gilbert on “Little House on the Prairie”.  I, honestly, was jealous of her, as I am sure so many girls my age were.

Melissa Gilbert is a couple of years older than me, also with red hair and freckles.  She worked with Michael Landon whom I had a huge crush on.  Later she was linked with Rob Lowe, another of my huge crushes…then she married Bruce Boxleitner…HELLO!  Can you say GORGEOUS?!?!?!?  Yeah, I had my jealous spurts towards Melissa! LOL

When her memoir came out, I started hearing all sorts of positive reviews from friends as well as critics.  I have to admit there was a touch of curiousity there…so I downloaded a sample to my Kindle and was hooked from the first page.

Having finished reading Prairie Tale, I can honestly say how much I admire and respect Ms Gilbert.  Her frank openess and complete honesty in sharing her story was surprising as well as refreshing.   I laughed and cried with her…I feel like we’ve become old friends!

It was an eye-opening read.  I think we all would like to taste fame and fortune…I’ve since rethought the whole fame thing.  I can only begin to imagine what a life in the public eye is like and I’ll take anonymity, thanks.

To Ms. Gilbert, thank you for sharing your experiences.  I hope you found the catharsis you sought and wish you hope, joy and success in the future!  Keep laughing and remembering to keep doing what brings you joy!
