Hunting the Elusive Clay Pigeon

IMG_1515xThose orange things in the box would be the elusive clay pigeons.  You can only hunt them while in flight.  But the damn things don’t have wings, so you need a launcher…hence the weird metal thing mickey-rigged on a tire rim.  Once you’ve shot the clay pigeon, you needn’t clean it, only make sure, when you cook it, use a lot of liquid or they taste kind of chalky.

IMG_1528xOK, enough of the poultry, or paltry,  humor…LOL.  Last weekend, Brian made plans with Kenny to do some shooting.  Brian had been carrying around the box of pigeons for I don’t know how long. David went with.  Brian loaded up the .410 and David out-shot the men using 12 and 20 gauge shotguns!   Not sure if you can tell in the picture above, but David, the lefty, really holds the gun kind of strangely, but it works for him.

IMG_1517xAfter all the talk about how well David did and how much fun he had, Cameron decided he needed to go this time.  Cam started with the .410 then progressed into the 20 gauge, then finally settling on the 12 guage.  It took David and Cameron some time to find their rhythm, but then they were blowing those pigeons out of the sky like no tomorrow.  The wind didn’t help, but they figured out how to work around it.

Brian even brought out an old rifle that had been in the family for generations.  Apparently it was a WWI issued rifle, a Mauser 8mm of some kind. Apparently you can’t even buy ammunition for this gun any longer…but had a belt loaded with rounds.  Brian insisted on shooting it…all I could think about was the damn thing blowing up in his face…it didn’t, thank God.  Then my nephew Cam had to have a turn…it had quite a kick rocking both he and his Uncle back on their heels.  But they had a great time.
